“Cheese, bread and wine are the Holy Trinity of the European table”, said the French writer of the twentieth century Michel Tournier. And how can you not agree with him?
Cheese is the result of ancient knowledge and traditions, and is a perfect combination with the smell of bread and the fragrance of a good glass of wine. There are so many varieties of cheeses, varying in price and quality, of different ages and consequently of countless flavours and uses.
On Lake Garda, cheese is without doubt one of the most loved and appreciated local products. This is the reason why we have organized one of our excursions around this exquisite product.
A tour to the Boffenigo hill and cheese tasting
The first to enjoy this experience were Mr and Mrs Walken, guests at the Boffenigo, and two friends of theirs, who met in the morning for their excursion with our Customer Experience Manager Vanessa. The tour included a visit to a local farm and a break with cheese tasting. How did it go?
“We set off towards the Parco dell’Amicizia - says Vanessa - and then continued on the cycle path among the vineyards. After circling the Boffenigo hill we headed to Bondi and the Loncrini Margherita farm. There we met a group of students from the elementary school in Albarè who were visiting the cow farm, and then we visited the little shop, where mother and daughter offered us some cheeses to taste ... the yoghurt with orange and ginger was incredible! After learning a little of their trade, we headed back, greeting some pretty goats. We talked about the importance of local products and good quality, of medicinal plants we found along the way and also of beautiful flowers like the climbing roses growing around the dairy cottage. In the grove below we collected some plastic rubbish, discarded by some uncivil person, and we took it to the recycling bins at the Hotel. It was really nice to share these moments with Mr and Mrs Walken and their friends. Their smiles were the greatest satisfaction of a very positive experience!”
A visit to the Loncrini Margherita farm
The Loncrini farm is in Costermano, at the crossroads leading to Lake Garda and Monte Baldo. It was built on a family passion, from a mother who passed on to her children the love for homemade products, made with care and love. Two main activities are carried out at the farm - the breeding of dairy cattle, and the production of cheese in the company workshop and yogurt, both sold in their little shop and at the ‘zero miles’ markets of Brenzone, Bardolino and Costermano.
Yogurt, cottage cheese, stracchino, monte and caciottine made with raw milk: the specialties produced here are many and all delicious. You can taste the freshness, the authenticity and the small attentions that make the difference when it comes to local products.
